Trump Still has Tariffs in Place, Don't Get Stockholm Syndrome

Despite the announced 90-day pause on tariffs, it only applies to "reciprocal" tariffs and all others are still in place. There is nothing to celebrate here.

Contrary to what investors desperate for positive news and MAGA faithful want to believe after the market rallied today, Donald Trump is not some genius playing 28-dimensional chess. He is a fraud and supervillain playing games with the lives and finances of hundreds of millions of Americans. His announced 90-day pause on tariffs only applies to the "reciprocal" tariffs that went into effect today, not to any other tariffs that were in place prior to these. There remains a 10% base global tariff and a now 125% blanket tariff on China, among other tariffs like on steel and autos.

Republicans in Congress Must Grab the Purse Back from Trump, End the Tariffs

Congress can block the destructive tariffs Trump is putting in place, but Republicans need to stop being cowards and Democrats need to put the heat on them before it's too late.

To avoid an economic catastrophe, Congress must take back the purse from Trump and immediately reassert its authority under the Constitution to decide if and when a tariff is imposed on other countries. Last Wednesday, Trump declared an illegal national emergency and imposed devastating global tariffs that are currently sinking the American and global economies. The Dow posted back-to-back losses of more than 1,500 points for the first time ever on Thursday and Friday, and it ended the day in red again. Trump's response? He golfed all weekend, previously stated he "couldn't care less" about the economic suffering of Americans, and the White House said it is not backing down today.
